Words of Graditude from Pastor Mike & Lucy

OUT of My Mind

As my 43 years of serving as a pastor draw to a close, I find myself filled with gratitude to God for who he is and all that he has done in my life and ministry.

I have had the privilege of pastoring five churches, including Manly Memorial. Over these 43 years as a pastor I have preached more sermons than I can count, have participated in far too many committee and deacons’ meetings, shed tears at far too many funerals, celebrated at far too few weddings, and have not had nearly enough opportunities to rejoice at baptisms.

I would not have lasted this long as a pastor without the assistance of many wonderful people of God both in and out of the churches I have served. And that is especially true here at MMBC. For each of you who have taken the time to encourage, support and pray for me, I am more grateful than mere words can express.

I am especially grateful to my wife Lucy for her unwavering support through all these years of ministry and life that we have shared together. Without her love, understanding, patience, prayers, support, encouragement, counsel and consoling, I could not have been a pastor. From the very beginning, we have viewed this ministry as a partnership to which we have both been called by God, and I could not have done what I have done, without her doing so very well all that she does. These years of ministry have not always been easy, but as we have looked back, we can see that they were always filled with God’s grace and goodness.

Manly has truly been a home for me and my family these last 19 years. In fact, I have lived in Lexington longer than any other place in my life. Time and time again you have generously shared with me, Lucy, and our family, your friendship and love. All three of our children, Brian, Ben and Beth, were married during our time here. All five of our grandchildren have been born while we were here. And, of course, my father came to live in this community, attend church here, and went home to be with the Lord while we have been here.

I am thankful to God for the privilege of serving him as a pastor all these years, and especially as the pastor of this church. I look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things God has in store for you in the years ahead. Though God may be placing many miles between us, be assured that Manly will always have a special place in our hearts.

Please remember us in your prayers, as we will remember you in ours. I remind you of the Lord's promise in Jeremiah 29: 11: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." May God bless you now and in all the days to come.

Your Brother in Christ,

Mike

Grateful-Thankful-Blessed

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

It is so hard to believe we are leaving Manly and Lexington. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your pastor’s wife and especially as your Adult Choir Director for the last five years. It has been a little crazy as we were in the middle of the sanctuary renovation when I started and then dealing with Covid here at the end. Nevertheless, it has been a joy to work with the dedicated and talented members of our choir. The cantatas are favorite memories as well as the Sunday morning anthems, working with the Praise Band on occasion and the joy of making music together in rehearsal. It has been a pleasure to work with Alysan who is so patient with the demands I have made of her. Working with Don and the AV team has also been an incredible blessing. Thank you for the support you have given me personally, the encouragement to develop as a soloist and choir director and the love you have shown for our family. You have truly been the body of Christ to us.

Our prayer is that God will bring you just the right person to lead you into the future. We are also praying for the future of the music program. It will look different than it has in the past, no doubt, but the opportunities for uplifting one another through music and praising God for all his benefits will always be there.

May God bless each of you with His continued Presence as we all step forward in faith in the days ahead.

In Christian Love,

Lucy Wilkins
